There’s so much power in placing yourself behind the actions you take or the decisions you make - it’s an empowering sense of personal progress. Even as someone who optimizes their own actions in the name of efficiency, I understand that my conviction is what will drive me forward - not necessarily the outcome of my decisions.

I’m also glad you mention the power of wrong decision over indecision, because even the wrong step is one in the right direction.

“The power of the wrong decision over indecision” …I like how you phrased that

I think this is so important for anyone with a proclivity towards self-reflection since it can counterproductively impede progress. I try to remind myself of The Centipede's dilemma:

>Ask a centipede which one of its hundred legs moves the fastest and it forgets how to move. Reflecting on what we normally do without thought ironically worsens performance. A culture of endless self-reflection, therapy, and navel-gazing is eroding important life skills.

Oh damn, how much I needed to read this.... it's just fully relatable as I'm suffering by overthinking in these days and weeks more than ever before.

Overthinking dating, family issues, fitness and personal development, while feeling so low. I also partially attribute overthinking to my too intentional self-development: too much analysis, too much contemplation, rather than taking (courageous) actions, even if not directly related to self-improvement.

Emily, thanks a mil for this piece, I needed to read this post but could not articulate it for myself in a better format before!

Glad it resonated! No doubt you'll be able to pull yourself out of that spiral in no time.

This is the least relatable post you've ever published for me personally... because I am neither a runner NOR am I an overthinker! I am wondering if there is a correlation, haha...........

However, I am super inspired - I am thinking of doing a mini running challenge (one mile a day) in September, to build a muscle (disciple, also leg muscles) I am sorely lacking. This might be the kick in the butt I need!

We had to have a miss (with reading each other's minds) eventually 😆 One mile a day is a great goal! Walk as much as you need, and then slowly try to ween off of that. I swear it gets easier and eventually enjoyable... just takes some stick-with-it-ness so it's a great way to train that muscle 💪🏼
